Hynes’ Campaign Suffers Significant Sign Vandalism
May 1, 2011 (Grand Falls - Windsor, NL) – Sign theft and vandalism has plagued the Conservative campaign in Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor, culminating in significant damage over the past few days.
Over the past week in particular there have been a number of signs targeted for repeated vandalism.
Signs have been removed or destroyed along Grenfell Heights, Harris Avenue and Cromer Avenue in Grand Falls-Windsor, throughout Botwood, the entire length of the Botwood highway, and various locations in Bishop's Falls.
The Hynes campaign has placed dozens of signs along the entire length of the Botwood Highway on two occasions, and both times every single sign was destroyed or stolen.
This morning a four-foot by eight-foot Hynes campaign sign that had been ripped from its frame at the corner of the Botwood Highway and Fernwood Drive over a week ago, and another smaller Hynes campaign sign, had washed up on the beach at the venue of the Battle of the Atlantic commemoration in Botwood, which Hynes and other dignitaries attended.
“It’s discouraging that people would attempt to disrupt the democratic process through this kind of vandalism and theft,” said Liam O’Brien, campaign manager for Aaron Hynes.
“Our campaign has notified the RCMP, and if anyone has information related to this illegal activity, they are encouraged to contact the authorities.”

HYNES DRAWS THE SUPPORT OF NOTABLE COMMUNITY FIGURES
April 25, 2011 (Grand Falls-Windsor, NL) – Aaron Hynes, the federal Conservative candidate in the riding of Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor, has secured the endorsements of major community leaders across the riding.
The President and CEO of the Gander International Airport Authority, Gary Vey, credits Hynes for working hard as a staffer in the Conservative government and as a candidate in the 2006 election to keep the airport viable.
“Aaron Hynes has already delivered major results for Gander. When I first met Aaron five years ago, he committed to secure federal financial assistance the airport, and he was true to his word. I can honestly say that if it weren’t for Aaron Hynes and the Conservative Party of Canada, I don’t know if there would still be an airport in Gander today.”
In Little Catalina on Bonavista Peninsula, Hynes has secured the support of prominent FFAW union representative Jim Dalton, who said: “We need a representative like Aaron Hynes in Ottawa, to work hard and speak up for the interests of fishermen and plant workers on Bonavista Peninsula and throughout Newfoundland. He listens, he knows what’s at stake, and I believe he can get results.”
In Grand Falls-Windsor, former mayor and former Member of Parliament Rex Barnes threw his endorsement behind Aaron, stating: “Aaron Hynes is a very hard worker, and he really cares about the people he seeks to represent. He’s highly respected within the Conservative party, and his experience on Parliament Hill will make him an excellent MP for this riding.”
Along with these endorsements, Aaron also has the unanimous support of the provincial MHAs whose districts are wholly or partly within the federal riding of Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor.
RIDING MHAs SUPPORT AARON HYNES
APRIL 20, 2011 (Grand Falls-Windsor, NL) – Conservative candidate Aaron Hynes has the unanimous support of Members of the House of Assembly whose districts are within the federal riding of Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor.
"As a Conservative staffer on Parliament Hill and a candidate in the 2006 Federal Election, Aaron's influence has made a big difference," said the Hon Kevin O'Brien, MHA for Gander District. "Aaron's hard work has certainly helped in the reinstatement of the Newfoundland and Labrador Weather Office and also funding for Gander International Airport. His efforts as a non-elected person certainly show that he would make a great Member of Parliament and serve this district and the people of the province well."
The Hon. Susan Sullivan, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans, offered a similar message last week while meeting constituents with Hynes in Badger.
Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South MHA Ray Hunter, who recently met constituents with Hynes in the Exploits Valley Mall, said: "Aaron is a good man who understands what families in our communities really need. His views are closer in line with those of most people I know in this region. That's why I'm supporting him."
Hynes also has the support of the following MHAs:
Clayton Forsey, MHA Exploits;
Wade Verge, MHA Lewisporte;
Sandy Collins, MHA Terra Nova;
Derrick Dalley, MHA The Isles of Notre Dame;
Harry Harding, MHA Bonavista North.
Ross Wiseman, MHA Trinity North
Bonavista South MHA Roger Fitzgerald, the only other MHA in the federal riding in which Hynes is running, is obliged to remain neutral due to his role as Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Hynes today expressed his gratitude for the support of the provincial MHAs, stating, "It's a real honour to have so many good and accomplished people supporting me. Everyone on the Conservative team is very pleased and energized by this building support. People in every part of this vast riding are telling me they want change and they feel change coming, and I can feel it too. We have a strong and united team, we have the right policies for rural Newfoundland, and our momentum is definitely building!"
HYNES VOWS SUPPORT FOR SEAL HUNT MONUMENT IN ELLISTON
APRIL 5, 2011 (Grand Falls-Windsor, NL) – Aaron Hynes, Conservative candidate for Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor, today declared his strong support for a planned monument in Elliston commemorating the sacrifices made by Newfoundlanders throughout the history of the seal hunt. The monument would be unveiled on the 100th anniversary of the Great Newfoundland Sealing Disaster of 1914.
Hynes spoke on Tuesday morning with the Chair of Elliston Heritage Foundation, and committed that, if elected as MP, he will work to secure federal funding for the memorial.
Hynes stated, "The idea of building a monument to all the sealers who have faced peril on the ice is long overdue. The seal hunt has always been an essential part of the Newfoundland economy and culture. The planned monument would help educate people about both the history and the ongoing importance of the seal hunt to rural Newfoundland."
Hynes also contrasted his Conservative Party's support for the seal hunt with efforts by Liberal MPs and senators to ban the seal hunt. "The Conservative Party is united in its support for the seal hunt. Our government has successfully opened new markets for seal products from Newfoundland and Labrador. Meanwhile, members of the Liberal caucus have been trying to ban the seal hunt outright."
Referencing a recent letter by Liberal MP Hedy Fry, and a bill introduced by Liberal Senator Mac Harb, both supporting a ban on the seal hunt, Hynes stated: "I'm committed to seeing the monument unveiled in Elliston, and when it is I'll invite Hedy Fry and Mac Harb to come and see it. Maybe it will help them understand what the seal hunt means to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Obviously, their own Liberal colleagues from this province have not done a very good job explaining it."
AARON HYNES RUNNING AS A CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE IN BONAVISTA-GANDER-GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR
March 31, 2011 (St.John's, NL) – Today Aaron Hynes announced he will be running as the Conservative Party of Canada candidate in the district of Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor.
"I am pleased to be a part of an incredible slate of Conservative candidates here in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Hynes.
